Photoshop 7 with Wine

I have just downloaded wine-20040408 in source code
Its set up and I have already installed Photoshop 5.5 and Illustrator 9 This is abseloutely great !!!
But ...
I just tried to install Photoshop 7 and got this mesage .I had a look on wine HQ and found nothing there to explain this
Quote:
This operating system is not supported by this installation For Windows NT4 you must have service pack 4 or greater to install ... set up will now quit
Looks like a normal stupid windows message except that this is Linux - Mandrake 10 !!

I also have problems when I try to install Macromedia Fireworks 4
Here the install shield starts and then the window just dissapears alltogether and nothing happens any more .

does somebody have an idea to fix this

I have had an other look on the wine HQ site and all these programs are listed as working without bugs There is obviously something that I have missed
Has any body come across the same problems ?

Try using an older version of wine maybe a late 2003 release. I've found that a lot of apps that wont work on the newer versions of wine work fine on an older version.

Find the line:
"Windows" = "something"
there may be a ; at the start, if so, remove it.
then change it to win98.
try the install again. if it doesnt work, change it again to the next version of windows ("winme") and try again. keep repeating this until it works, using the following order of windows versions:
nt40 win2k winxp

if none of these work then try wine 20040505 which is the most recent i think. you might need to reinstall the programs u have currently.

I had a look at the wine config file and this is what i have in there for version

Quote:
[Version]
; Windows version to imitate (win95,win98,winme,nt351,nt40,win2k,winxp,win2k3,win20,win30,win31)
;"Windows" = "win98"
; DOS version to imitate
;"DOS" = "6.22"
So this seems to be OK

I did try replacing win98 with win2k but I get the same error message !

As far as older versions of wine go I tried the version that came with my Mandreke 10 CD's That was useles
I have since learnt that the RPM versions dont install the same .

Ths source file I downloaded from Wine HQ did the whole set up for me .

As I mentioned before I have so far the following window programs set up fine with my current version of wine:
P Shop 5.5
Illustrator 9
Bradbury Top Style 2.5
WsFtp Pro
Win Commander
win zip
******
I tried winamp P Shop 7 Fireworks 4 or MX Flash 5 or MX as well Office 2000 and IE5.5
Ugh! to no avail ...

Not that I need all this stuff but its worth it to Try Out !
I am really interested in Fireworks

I saw on the codeweavers web site that crossover office can run all these Apps But their compatibilty data base resembles
the one on Win HQ
...

you will have to remove the ; before "Windows"... or it will remain commented and so be ignored. do this, and follow my instructions

Hopefully for web development, ie: how broken does my site look in IE. Certainly not for web browsing. That's just wrong.

well one reason why I would need IE is that I make web sites and have to see what they look like on that . A lot of sites made in Window
But basicaly you are right whats the point of using window programs with Linux . Might as well have a second pc with window on it or a dual boot pc.
Personaly I just use Wine now to run Photo Shop 5.5 thats it.
