Phoneline Spam Filter :)

As the subject implies, I'm wondering if it's possible to set up a program with a voice modem in linux, using caller ID to filter phone calls.

I know that I need a voice modem which supports caller ID and obviously some sort of program that uses the modem to pick up that information. I've looked into http://www.vocpsystem.com/ but am a bit confused as to whether or not it does the trick. It seems only filter calls in the sense that it will notify different people on the network depending on who's calling.

I would like a program which listens (on a linux box/server),picks up the CID and:

- logs it into the system, perhaps via SQL where I can assign a name to the number if necessary, add it to a white/black list.

- allows any unknown / known number to go through based on schedules

- hangs up on unwanted / blacklisted numbers (the only thing I can think of if the other phones don't branch from that computer / the computer is another 'phone' in the house)

- generally acts as an answering machine and can record messages based on calls (also has option for personalized greetings based on the number).

In essence, a pre VOIP linux phone manager.

Now i'm assuming that CID information will reach the computer split seconds before the phone actually rings otherwise it won't be a very effective filter , does anyone know if this is the case?

Also, I know you need to subscribe to get the service, but does anyone know if the modem can atleast pick up the incoming number if you are not subscribed to the service?

Would such a program be difficult to develop? would CID functionality be dependent upon the service provider?

Thanks in advance.
