PGP & Kmail
Hi guys,
please would someone put me right? I am trying to get PGP 6.5.8 and Kmail 1.4.3 working together. PGP is installed in /usr/bin with all the configuration files in ~/.pgp. I have generated the keys as per pgp instructions and checked the relevant dialogues in security->openpgp and set the PGP version to v6.x in the same dialogue in Kmail. The problem I have is the sign and encryption icons in Kmail's tool bar are still greyed out so cannot be used. Any ideas or help would be very much appreciated. Bash_Tin |
I have a suggestion - if you use evolution as your mail client the gpg should work straight away.
Plus evolution is an awesome mail client!!! - blows kmail away. |
Yeah don't really want to change my mail client at this point if I can help it. Been using it to long and have it all set up how I like it. Any other ideas?

All I can say is that KMail has handled GPG
well for me since version 1.3 ... never tried PGP ..... Does your PGP work from a command-line? If you encrypt files, or sign them? Cheers, Tink |
Yes works fine on the command line. Is GPG similar to set up with Kmail as PGP? Also do you know where Kmail expects to find PGP/GPG?
Thanks, Bash_Tin |

the location, so I'd assume that the executables in the path are fine, and keys in ~/.gnupg (in my case, I'd assume it finds them in your ~/.pgp, too), the only thing I can think of is that you did create your keys, but the trusts/signatures aren't done yet. If this is the case KMail refuses to use them. Quote:
and then select GPG in KMail's security settings. Works like a charm. Cheers, Tink |
Me again,
I have now installed gpg 1.2.2, generated the key pair and the trust on the keys is 'ultimate' and certified as self signed. Done all the Kmail config stuff aswell. So it should work but still no joy, the sign and encrypt icons in Kmail are still greyed out. I am begining to wonder if my Kmail is just 'broken'. Any suggestions? Thanks again, Bash_Tin |
same problem here
SuSE 8.1 and KDE 3.03 and KMail 1.4.3 has exactly the same problem as discribed here. Unfortunatly SuSE is not supported by EVOLUTION and the installation script breaks up.
The thread hasn't come to an answer. I'd like to know did you solve your problem or whats the latest of it. thanks ggtux. |
Yes I did solve it in the end. Fortunately/unfortunately it was operator malfunction all along. I missed out the dialogue under Kmail->identity->advanced->OpenPGP key. RTFM... properly!!! Hope that helps anyone else as half soaked as me!

PGP & Kmail
Hi
Sorry to ask a really dumb question... (How) Can I import my PGP keys from XP to use in Mandrake/ Kmail? I'm clearly missing something... Cheers Gavin |
