We've heard of CrossOver, but there should be native support for Linux, and the best way would be just to opensource the player plugin. Hopefully others will help out in addition to just signing the petition, because I can't do this on my own.

It would be nice to have an official shockwave plugin and player.
Hopefully Macromedia will do this.

I think that the chance is big, because they are also busy with a studio mx package for linux, if I' m informed correctly of course ;-)

I signed it.

Perhaps you think that way because you can't spell properly.... If people would use spell-check before signing the petition, it might have more power....

I cannot believe it, the petition 3/4 of a year ago, we STILL do not have it.

Well, what prevents exactly the linux community to start a shockwave plugin?
just asking, like that, cause well... If it's not illegal to start one, might as well port it from win to lin and stop talking about it?

eight pages is a lot to read, there is almost a year of posts.....

I can tell you why we don't have it and likely never will.

$$$$$$$, then $$$$$$$$$ and then more $$$$$$$$$.

If there is no profit to be made, they won't do it. Of course when Linux takes over M$, we can boycott their sorry buts. Make them suck up to us then.

Later

can't we make our own shockwave player (one that reads shockwave files?)

do we NEED their permission to make a player?

I see my question was not asked properly

I'd love to see their suite of software come to the nix OS, but I doubt it'll happen unfortunatly. Consider this my signature. I would buy the software if they made it availiable.

Honestly, what they should have done was create it for the *NIX environment when they made it for the Mac environment, because let's face it, BSD and Linux are close enough, right? Well, just about as close as you'll get two OS's to be.....
