I'm having troubles contacting Macromedia. Seems that hr@macromedia.com isn't an email address anymore. And apparently support@macromedia.com and response@macromedia.com never were email addresses. And I've dug through their website, and I STILL can't find any email address. Even if I got an automated address, I'm sure I could get hold of someone since even Microsoft gives out employee email addresses if you're having major troubles with their software. If any of you could help me out with finding some email addresses, that would be great.

Okay, I have a followup:
I've been given the office number for Miriam Geller. I'm going to call her up and try to get some more information. The first step is to make sure this is genuine. If it is, then I would recommend to the Linux community, the *nix communities, the *BSD communities, and the general Open Source community to let them know what you think.
Here's what is posted on the petition:
My response to this message (which was forwarded to me) was as follows:
Quote:
50K? There's no way we can raise that much money. I'm in a local
group that's trying to start up a coffeehouse for highschoolers, and
over the course of four or five years, we've only managed to raise
roughly 25k, and we still have yet to get a location. This should be
an open-sourced project, with no need for money. I will contact Ms.
Geller and try to work something out. Thanks for the help, it's
greatly appreciated.

I will submit followups as they come. I would be very obliged if others would decide to help and donate their time. I'm not asking for a money fund yet, and hopefully we won't have to. But I'm sure that the Open source community will do whatever it takes to get this project rolling.
Followup:
The phone number is genuine, however, I was only able to get her voice mail. If anyone would choose to call the development staff for Shockwave, I ask that you be courteous and that we do not bombard the staff so that they cannot perform their duties. If you decide to follow through and call, I also ask of you to post what you have learned and what you discussed. There is no need for the community to ask the staff the same questions over and over again, and there is no reason whatsoever as to why the staff should have to put up with harrassment such as that.

hi all. i don't know if this has been posted or not, but i'll post it again anyway. i found this email in an archive of the SuSE mailing list.
From: Jarl Friis <jarl@softace.dk>

Subject: [suse-kde] OT: Shockwave Player for Linux
Dear all.
If you would like to see Macromedia ShockWave Player please read on.
A couple of days ago I contacted Macromedia regarding a Macromedia
Shockwave Player for Linux (they have already made a Flash Player
available). I requested them to build a Shockwave Player for linux and
this was their response:
-----------
Hi Jarl,
Thank you for writing Macromedia Technical Support.
The best thing to do would be to fill out the Feature Request form
here: http://www.macromedia.com/support/email/wishform/ and have other
Linux users do the same.
The engineers view the wishlist regularly and would consider porting
the player to Linux if enough users request for it.
We hoped this has helped.
Best regards,
Jayem Abania
Macromedia Technical Support
-----------
This certainly look like development on demand. So I highly encourage
you all to visit http://www.macromedia.com/support/email/wishform/ to
fill out a wish for a Shockwave Player for linux.
Jarl
in other words, instead of signing this online petition (which i also signed, btw), i think we need to just flood macromedia with requests. with such a high demand, there's no way they can turn us down. well, they could turn us down, but it would be stupid.

Sounds logical and a better idea than having everyone ring Macromedia up on the tele.
Here's what I put in:
Name: *My name*
Email: *My email*
This is a: Feature Request
Product Name: Shockwave
Product Version: 10
Browser: Netscape Navigator
Your Operating System: Linux
Your Operating System Version: 2.4.26
Please enter your product request....: Shockwave player for Linux. Flashplayer is already available, and websites are losing revenue and hits because Linux users cannot use shockwave programs.

signed, the petition, and sent in the form to Macromedia. I miss, sorry, my SON misses those racing games on www.lego.com.
Seriously, not having this plug in is another thing in the "against" column for Linux on the desktop, and not all of us can afford Apple Macs!

I just searched "shockwave" under http://www.google.com/linux (full url is http://www.google.com/linux?hl=en&lr...=Google+Search )
and lo and behold, the petition is the first hit! Not only that, but this thread is the fourth hit! Hopefully this will gain even more momentem, and perhaps more people will be willing to help contact the people at Macromedia and tell them what they think!
