"personal digital writable encyclopedia"

Hi everyone.
We consume information, often digital - at least happens with me.
I am looking for software which allows me to treat and organize the information I consume and produce. Functions like the edition of personal notes, to mark (with colours) as crucial, very important and important different sequences of information, conversion of several digital formats to an editable "standard" one that permits to write, classification options, indexation possibilities, information retrieval activity (like a search engine), consideration of the time vector (memory and recalls), possibility to relate parts of information with other information (links), would be desirable features. The software am looking for it`s like a personal digital writable encyclopedia built by myself which allows me to treat, compile, index and classify (when it is important), identify the origin or source of the information - contains information consumed (internet - wesites, e-books, books, journals ... etc etc) and derived, produced information (personal notes, what I write by myself)in a deeply organized way that is beyond what the OS and some software offers, always ready to alterations and searchable. A software useful for an information collector, consumer and producer.
If you know software that fits my necessity or if you have a comment about this, please, reply to my post.
Sorry for the bad english language (I am trying to learn).

Thanks in advance.

interestingly, MS Vista attempts something like this by integrating all software (MS software at least) to make it searchable and sortable in a simple, easy to manage way. dunno that it succeeds mind!

what it sounds like you are looking for is some type of wiki, that you can edit yourself and link other information into? just a thought..
