Post Permission Denied Error on command line?

i am trying to compile and install goom. It starting out by entering and exiting a few directorys, then it trys to create a file. Heres what happens

i type:
"
cd goom2k4-0
make && makeinstall
"
then it starts to enter and exit a couple directorys then it try to make a file
"
cannot create regular file /"file name"
Permission denied
"
then i get a few errors
"
make[2]: ***[install-goom2_lilLTLIBRARIES] Error 1..
...
"
then it does it again with ...
[install-am
and again with
[install-recursive
"

How do i go about giving the make and the makeinstall files permission

Thanks

thanks for the help. Now i have another problem

i ran into the error that it could not find makeinstall, and im guessing this is due to the fact the xmms was not installed.

when i type in ./configure
....
checking for xmms-configure.. no
checking for XMMS - version>= 0.9.5.1... no
***the xmms-config script installed by xmms could not be found
***if xmms was installed in prefix, make sure PREFIX/bin is in
***your, path or set the XMMS_CONFIG environment cariable to the
*** full path to xmms-config

i have looked everywhere and cant figure out how to install it
iv tried using
sudo aptitude install xmms-devel
......................xmms-configue

thanks if you point me in the right direction

I not a total noob when it comes to using the command line, but im not good with it either, so if u could make it simpler that would be awesome

Install the dependencies it needs. You haven't mentioned what distribution you are using, so I'll assume Ubuntu. Try installing xmms-dev. Also, it's "make install" not "makeinstall".
