Perl/CGI question

I'm having problems running a simple Perl program from an html document on RedHat Linux. When I upload it to my server at school, it works fine from the browser, but I can't run it on my computer. When I click a button on the html page to run a perl program, a new page appears, but it simply displays the Perl code instead of running it.
Any ideas? I know the directories are all fine because it displays the correct code.

Have you put the file in your cgi-bin?
How have you configured apache to deal with scripts?

I just created a cgi-bin folder under my directory. Are you saying there is a default one somewhere else?
Also, I don't know anything about Apache. Do I have to be set up as a server to be able to run these scripts??

Check your config file httpd.conf - it probably has a default script aliased directory for your cgi-bin. If you want to use non script aliased directories you will need to add an ExecCGI option for that directory.
