Pengaol problem
I just installed Gentoo 1.2, and since I'm stuck with AOL for the moment, I installed pengaol. I've used pengaol before, so I'm familiar with the installation procedure and setting it up for use with a modem. No matter what version of pengaol I use, it complains that the modem driver doesn't work on this configuration. I have the serial port set up in the kernel, so I'm not sure what the problem is. Any ideas?

I have exactly the same problem with PengAOL - my modem works fine in LInux - but PenAOL modem driver not working - I have seen a Mandrake 8.2 precompiled PengAOL and will try it out later this week.
Does anyone know when PengAOL 2.0 is due out? One problem for an Anglophone is that most of what's written about PengAOL is in French - to find some evidence that it has been used successfully by someone anyone in the UK would be reassuring
regards

I am also having problems with pengaol 1.0 and gentoo 1.2. I can install and then add a user. After doing this I try to use the connect command, my modem dials and sounds as if it has connected but then it says that It could not initialise the modem. I have a usb modem but i have compileied in acm.o and my modem conforms to the reelevant standards and I have directed pengaol to use it. Is it possible there is a generic problem involving pengaol and gentoo?

Hi Ya'll, I think I may have a solution for you.
Make certain that in /etc/Pengaol/PengAol.conf under the section labelled [cmodemdriver] (or something like that) that you have your modem correct port set and that the server language is set to English (unless your in a country where that is not your native language). I hope that helps, and if not, I'm sorry.
I'm having a different type of problem, however. It simply refuses to activate my DNS. It runs through the list of DNS adresses specified in /etc/Pengaol/Dns then it just hangs. Any help would be appreciated.
(I so need to switch ISPs... :lol)

I'm also having problems with pengaol. It dials in and but immediately disconnects. could it be that my modem is not configured properly, or is the problem with the pengaol configuration?

I think I'm having the same problem as you guys, pengaol tells me my driver isn't configured. No one knows how to fix this?? This is crap.... why do I have all the bad luck? I had the same situation installing Mandrake-- I had a huge problem that wasn't all that rare, and no one had an answer. I still dont know what I did to fix it.... (sigh)
