pemission denied

when i try to access " /etc/inetd.conf" i get a message "permision denied". im logged in as root and am trying to access this using root bash and tcsc. is there something i must set first to access these files or am i using the wrong procedure?
thanks

inetd.conf is a configuration file and not a directory; a pretty good cause "cd inetd.conf" doesn't work

i'd suggest you're actually trying ton executre the file... it is not a program, so obviously it can't be run. you need to load it into a text editor while logged in as root.
