Hi,

Yeh what dxq said:

lspci -v

should give you the all the info on what chipset your wifi card is based on, if it is a ralink card it shouldn't be too hard to find drivers for it as ralink actually released a driver for linux under the gpl.

http://rt2x00.serialmonkey.com/wiki/...itle=Main_Page

Thats the site for the driver development project.

I am actually not sure about being a ralink card, but Vista and RH hardware rowser seem to think is a Railink.. no model number provided..
However if I do the suggested command I get no "Ralink" displayed as device name. This is from Fedora:

Very weird!! I think your'll have to open up the laptop to find out the exact make and model of the wifi card, its most likely in the mini-pci slot on the bottom of the laptop. I found this site:

http://www.thetechguys.com/

It seems to be the support arm of the dixons group that own pcworld etc and advent are there own brand. If you dig around on it there may be some manuals telling you how to open the laptop.

The mini-pci slot should be accessible from the bottom of the laptop, look for a removable panel about 7cm x 7cm in area.

Also on the windows side what does device manager say about who wrote the driver for the card?

Chris.

Hi all

Ok, I have opened the laptop, it's a 2571 (mPCI)

I have also managed to install an handfull of drivers, none worked lol. I am beginning to suspect that I ll have to wait for some decent driver. Meanwhile I am lounging on the serial monkeys site in the hope of some news/help.

Meanwhile thank you for the help and of course if you know of something post back! ;)
