PASV mode connection error in proftpd

Hi,

I have proftpd installed on my Mandrake 10.0, earlier it was working all fine. Then I have once switched on the firewall for security reasons(but allowing incoming ssh and ftp requests). Since then there is a problem with incoming ftp, even when I have removed the firewall.

When I try to connect to my comp through ftp, the terminal goes non responding for a long time, then it says:

Data connection timed out.
Falling back to PORT instead of PASV mode

after that the file transfer begins.
I need to use ftp service quite frequently, so having a lot of inconvinience.

Somebody help me sort this out.

Thank you!

it might be that your ftp-client machine (not the server) don't accept ftp-data on port 20.
Your server seems to work fine, because the PORT-mode works. [ftp-client requests a connection to the server (port 21), then opens a data connection with port 20.

On the PASV mode the data connection on Port 20 is open through the server.

i think your client is blocking the incoming connection through the server.

Hi,
Thanks for replying, but I am still having confusions in my mind, that what could be the reason, that earlier it was working all fine and now its showing up the problem, and how can it be fixed back to normal.. :-(

Thanks!
