hello iv just go myself a "system rescue cd" and it is telling me my harddrive looks like this
"device" " size" " type" "mount" " start" " end" "used" " label"
"/dev/hda" "55.9GB" " ST360012A " " 0" "116300"

"/dev/hda1" "157.0mb" "linux" * " 0 " " 318 " /boot
native

"/dev/hda2" " 16.5GB" " linux" * " 319 " " 34854" /
native

"/dev/hda3" "996.1mb" " linux" " swap" " 34855" " 36878"
swap

"/dev/hda4" " 16.0GB" " linux" / " 36879" " 70122"
"native"

now on top of this iv got another 22GB of free space which i want to use to install slackware10 but the 22GB is unuseable it would seem i am only alowed to have 4 primary partitions so what do i do ? can i convert one of my partitions in to some thing else i dont even know why it made them all primary positions in the first place i would appreciate as much help as i can get my hands on thank for any replys

hi there

u have no other option but to delete one of these partions that too the one which is before the fre space

then u need to make an extended partiton, and u can make upto around 15 logical drives in that and use them as u wish

regards

does hda2 have enough free space to copy all of hda4 onto it? you could copy hda4's data into a subdirectory on hda2, then delete hda4 and make a big extended partition.
