Partitioning my hard drive for another operating system.
 

Hello again guys.

I'm running Fedora Core 6 on my computer and I would like to make room for another operating system on my hard drive.

I have 2 hard drive, 1 is just fully Fedora Core 6 while the other is a back up hard drive.

I've allocated all the disk space for the first hard drive to my Fedora Core 6.

Is it still possible to create room for another operating system with the unused disk spaces on this hard drive (the Fedora Core 6 hard drive)?

i.e. creating a dual boot system.

I need a guide to partition my disk. I'm too scared that I'll accidentally overwrite my cool Fedora Core 6.

Go with gparted live cd, it'll allow you to resize your FC partition and create a new one.

But, it's a rule, backup all the important data before you play with partiotion table. You probably won't mess up anything, but the devil never sleeps.

Is all of your data in one partition? Meaning, do you have everything in one large root '/' partition?

I think I do - I gave all the hard drive space to my Fedora Core 6 when I installed Fedora Core 6.

What does it mean?

This 74 GB hard drive is this Fedora Core 6 I'm using right now.

Well, this is interesting... Could you give us the output of the following command:

fdisk -l /dev/hda

(You can do this from FC)

If you get reasonable output, then you should get newer version of gparted. Otherwise, partition table is messed up.
