partitioning
Ok, heres my problem, Tried putting linux slackware and suse 10.0 on a pc with Sata harddrives doesnt work. No kernals out there available for it yet, So im trying to put win xp pro back on my system. However I dont know what type of partiton to use. I tried making one partition that is bootable with HPFS/NTFS as the type. Wrote it and rebooted with the win xp pro cd and it says "Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your computer. F3 to restart. Any idea what type of partition it should be and how many partitions I may need ?
Thanks Jon |
If i remember correctly, you can set the partition type to W95 FAT32.. partition type 'c' in fdisk i believe. This should allow windows to see it and you can then convert it to ntfs.. unless the fact that it is SATA changes everything.
I think the windows install can create partitions as well, so i guess you could try deleting all of the partitions on the disk, if possible? |
Grab your linux install/boot/live CD... and use fdisk or cfdisk to remove all the partitions from the drive, then windows should see it.
