partition with cfdisk.. but no permission!!

hello all. I am having some difficulties installing slackware.
I am trying to install slackware on an empty harddrive. It is unpartitioned, so using slackware, i logged in as root and used cfdisk to create a partition. When i selected the partitions i wanted, i had to type "W" to write the current partition i wanted to create. But as soon as i type it, a message says "Open disk read-only - you have no permission to write."
If anyone knows how to fix this problem,(somehow allowing for me to give permission to write) it will be greatly appreciated. Help as soon as possible!

Check your BIOS settings for something like "Virus Protection" or "MBR Protection". If it is on then nothing can write to the Master Boot Record (which cfdisk needs to write to for the partition table). Turn it off and then try.
