partition shows full when not

hello,
i went to copy a file to my desktop when kde reported unable to do because disk is full. i check in kde control center and sure enough my /home partition on /dev/hda8 shows 100% full in the information section. now i know i was nowhere near full so i startup kdirstat and it shows only 256Mb used on 1Gb /home partition. any suggestions on what has happened and how i can get my space back....

open a shell/terminal window and type df
that will show you how much space is used on each partition.
If you want to know where all that is used, go into /home with cd /home
and run
du -h --max-depth=1
that will show you how much space is used in each of the /home folders

Cheers
Newbee

i did a reboot and now kde control center shows what i expected about 20% usage as does the df command. i guess kde choked (i thought only windows was supposed to do things like this).
