Partition Question - Installing 9.10 over 9.04 from USB

I'm going to install a fresh iteration of Ubuntu 9.10 to replace the current somewhat faulty 9.04 installation. The system also has a Windows XP installation on an NTFS partition, and some files common between the two OS installations on a FAT32 partition.

What's the best way to have 9.10 overwrite 9.04 without affecting the other two partitions?

Thanks in advance.

The same way you installed Ubuntu 9.04. I don't use grub2 (I still use Ubuntu 8.04 LTS till new LTS goes final) so some other member may want to chime in on what you need to install grub to. Probably MBR where old Legacy grub sits thus overwriting Legacy grub.

You should be able to point the installer to Ubuntu 9.04 Partition and install Ubuntu 9.10 there. Thus overwriting Ubuntu 9.04. You will be using the custom install feature in the installer.

Thank you - that's exactly what I did. Now I'm trying to get the wireless connection working. I'm on a Dell Inspiron 8600 and have installed WiFi radar, as well as ndiswrapper & ndisgtk. Using WiFi Radar, I've added the WEP key to my local wireless network and it gets stuck on Acquiring the IP address via DHCP.

Working through wikis, FAQs and forums now...

I don't know if dhclient is a option along with dhcp in your Network Manager. I run so many different network managers like ceni, wicd, rutilt, in different distros than Ubuntu. I have found that sometimes if I pick dhclient instead of dhcp. I have better luck connecting (in generic terms)
