Partioning laptop harddisk for installing linux

I have a preinstalled WIN-XP on a sony laptop. I need to
partition it for installing linux. The fdisk.exe downloaded
from web doesnot work in XP.

Can some one let me know if there is any other way
I can partition HD and install linux?

I have once (out of MANY times) got partition magic to mess up my harddisk (the ntfs drives), so ALWAYS backup.
If you install redhat or mandrake (plus several others) there is an option in the install that lets you minimze your windows drives (with mandrake it can do ntfs, donīt know about redhat).

BTW. I have read several places that peoble have had problems with the sony vaio and linux, but maybe itīs an old problem...
