Parallels desktop for linux

Hello guys, new to linux i've been learning little things and will continue. I'm running ubunt; (i know, typical noob distro), and on a Macintosh laptop pro. before being introduced to the world of linux, i used a program on os x called parallels desktop, and it was amazing. Today i found out there is a version for linux. I searched the ubuntu software centre but it wasn't there, so i downloaded the '.run' package from the official websight, but now i don't know how to install it. Help a noob in need. Thanks.

can you post a link to their website? There should be something like .deb or .tar.gz file.

according to wikipedia there isn't linux version. Maybe you should try some Xen, virtualbox or vmware..

basic info about virtualization

Hello,

Never used Parallels desktop but normally a .run or .bin file holds what you need to install it. You just make it executable with:
Code:
sudo chmod +x filename.run
and execute it:
Code:
./filename.run
Don't know if you'll need root privileges to run the installer but I'm sure 'it' will tell you if needed.

Needless to say that only install things from sources you trust.

Kind regards,

Eric

Hey thanks guys. I did what you said EricTRA and once applied sudo, i got the installer working. the installer installed 96% and then failed. oh well, you solved my problem, thanks. I think the new problem is a program problem, it's alright, i've moved to virtualbox instead.

Hello,

Glad you got a solution to your problem, being unable to run the installer. Sorry to hear it failed. If you prefer to use Parallels Desktop, then posting the error you get from the installer could help us help you. If you choose so open another thread for that problem/question. Please mark this thread as solved, if you consider it as such, using the Thread Tools.

Kind regards,

Eric
