pango pkg-config troubles

i'm trying to install the new gtk suite on fedora.

i successfully (i think) compiled and installed glib 2.4.0 from source, however,

"pkg-config --modversion glib-2.0" returns "2.2.3"

i need pkg-config to recognize glib 2.4.0 so that pango 1.4.0 will install so that atk 1.6.0 will install so that gtk-2.4.0 will install.

how do i tell/update pkg-config so it knows that glib 2.4.0 is installed and/or how do i uninstall glib 2.2.3?

ldconfig doesn't seem to do anything.

rpms are not available yet (that i could find).

any suggestions?

This one had me stumped for a while, too. Finally, I tried:
export PKG_CONFIG_PATH=/usr/local/lib/pkgconfig

I figured this out by searching for *.pc files on my system. The ones installed by the original system were in /usr/lib/pkgconfig, but the ones I just built were in the above path. Hope this helps!
