PAM+OpenLDAP

hi forum,

i am trying to install an authentication service with OpenLDAP and the libpam_ldap library.

OpenLDAP runs ok and to install and configure the pam_ldap library i ve followed the steps indicated in several online tutorials.

technically, i only need the pam_ldap lib to authenticate the Linux users against the LDAP directory. However, in the practice, i need to install the nss_ldap lib and configure the nsswitch.

With nss_ldap the authentication system runs ok but without it does not.

my question is: do i need strictly the nss_ldap lib?
if not, what could be my problem?

a lot of thanks;
