PAGER behaviour - keeping the text visible

Hi folks,

I have a gripe with bash - well, not actually bash itself, but one of it's default behaviours....

Or possibly it's the behaviour of my pager, less

for example, when one displays a man page or uses less, and then exits, the man page disappears and the bash prompt returns...

back when I used tcsh, the man page or less content persisted on the terminal.

how do I switch between keeping and hiding this content - because after all the intentof displaying the man page is to discover how to configure a command line.... if that disappears.... what? you expect me to remember stuff like that - 5 seconds ago???

"man less" - particulalrly the "-X" option.
