Packaging a binary so others can use it.

When I go to download a program, they have the binary versions and the source versions. I've got a Linux PS2, which has (more or less) the mips architecture, and since it seems they never have a mips binary, I was wondering how one would go about making a binary version of a program.

I use checkinstall to make rpm packages from source tarballs.
The procedure is:
Use tar to extract the tarball.
cd to correct directory

You can also use checkinstall to make Debian packages

I've been looking for an uninstaller program like Checkinstall for some time. Two problems solved with one program.
