P2V RHEL 6.x - any success stories?

We have a RHEL 6.x server that we are hoping to P2V into our VMware cluster. It appears that it isn't supported in VMware's standalone converter utility at this time (despite it be listed in the BETA )

Has anyone done any RHEL 6.x P2Vs? And if so, could you provide some insights? I'm guessing if people have done it they've likely done a TAR or DD of filesystems onto a fresh VM. This is perhaps where we'll end up, as well, but hoping someone knows of a better way.

Thanks.

Hi

its quite similar(but i did it for a RHEL 4.6);

really, if you have a cold backup of the entire disk you can do:

* startup the vmwareServer with rescue disk
* ssh orig_server_ip “cat /path/to/dd.img.gz” | gzip –d | dd of=/dev/sda bs=65536

in my case, the kernel panic at boot was caused for the module aacraid, that i change for mptscsih in modprobe.conf.
then i do mkinitrd, then change grub.conf.

works for me.
