1. I have gathered (and correct me if I'm wrong), that you get the most search "hits" from MLDonkey or the Fasttrack network. So do you think OpenML, or giFT with FastTrack plugin is better.
2. Do I need to do anything to my firewall to enhance the efficiency of these programs, and if so, is it a trade off for security?
I'm not really into P2P filesharing, so I can't help with your first question, but for the second one, anything you do to increase efficiency will probably mean a decrease in security. The less ports open the better
