P2P connections...........
 

Can/Does anyone here connect to Kazaa through Red Hat Linux 9.1? Anyone have an idea how to? Thanks.............ALAN

I don't use Redhat, but giFT is probably the most used P2P in Linux. It's a little tricky to get it all put together, since you need:

1) The giFT daemon

2) A plugin for each network that you want to connect to:
a) OpenFT
b) Gnutella
c) FastTrack (Kazaa)

3) A GUI (I recommend giFTcurs for simplicity of installation)

Do a search for gift on this forum, you'll find lots of info and lots of satisfied users.

I'm rather new at Linux so I could REALLY use some step-by-step instructions on how to get this thing up and running. Can you help? Just point me to the necessary files I'll need and I'll do my best to follow instructions. I'm running Red Hat 9.1 Thanks a heap !!!!!!!

If you want things easy do to http://www.mldonkey.org and download a binary there.Just unpack it and run it.That will get you on the edonkey network.
The alternatives for edonkey are xmule and amule.You'll probably have to go and hunt down rpm's and dependencies for that - namely wxGTK.
For gift you'll need a lot of stuff.First of all the gift daemon and then all the plugins you want to use.A visit at http://rpmfind.net would probably in order to find all that stuff.
apollon is a nice gui for it.There are also links for the things you need there.

Did try mldonkey,xmule,amule and giFT but no contest there.

If you want to make it really simple.....get the gtk-gnutella rpm. Install the rpm and you'll be d/l music in minutes. After you get a better handle on linux you might want to look into giFT and whatnot.
