You've probably already checked this out, but Kontact, which includes Kmail, can import contacts from :

VCard
MS Exchange .PAB files
Eudora addressbooks
CVS format
Opera addressbooks
KDE2 addressbooks
LDIF addressbooks

If you can find a way to export the contacts from your MS Outlook .pst file to one of those formats, then you should be able to import them into Kontact/Kmail.

For your message base, KMail can import from:

Outlook Express
Evolution
Opera mail
mbox
plain text
Thunderbird
Pegasus mail
OSX mail

As with contacts, Outlook is conspicuously absent from this list. But, if you can find a way to export the messages from your .pst to one of these formats, you should have at least a chance of getting them into Kmail.

Let us know how it goes.

HiHi! I managed it!!!

This is a short explanation of how i have done it:

Messages:
1) install outlook and create a new profile with the .pst as datafile
2) install mozilla for windows
3) import outlook in mozilla
4) copy the mbox mail structure from mozilla to your linux os
5) install evolution on linux

6) import the mbox into evolution
7) import evolution into kmail

Mails:
1) install outlook and create a new profile with the .pst as datafile
2) export contacts to windows vcf
5) import vcf into evolution

That's it! :)

The only bad thing is, that all mailattachments were lost!!! :(
So you have to save all attachments in windows/outlook and copy them as file to you linux box!

But: i have decided to use evolution for my mail activity and not kmail/kontact because kmail does not show html-mails correctly.
MS outlook is a perfect example of how this should be done. Outlook do not load any external source but if you want outlook shows the message very good in html. this is how kmail should this too.

It's my experience with kmail that html code is displayed instead of what the page would look like as a security measure. There should be a message that kmail is doing so, and a link in the message to click on to display the html as you would normally want to see it.

Perhaps a bit late, but...

KMail has this option, to either show as plaintext, show as HTML, and as HTML to either auto-load external references or give an option to click a 'link' to load them...

Overall I would also love to see a .PST importing app...

In case anybody comes here during reseatch of the topic:

The packet "libpst" is what you want and "readpst" is the command you need...

JZL240I-U
you are aware that this thread is from June 2005
almost TEN ( 10 ) years ago

for a version of SUSE that is long dead and a version of kde that is no more

and for a version of outlook for XP a OS that also is not supported any longer

JZL240I-U 03-16-2015 02:19 AM

Yes, John, I'm aware of all of that. Still, my search for a solution of a somewhat similar problem (see my new thread here http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...re-4175536804/) brought me here.

Since I could provide a (partial?) solution I made a brief post to maybe help anyone in the same situation. You see, some problems don't really get solved even after more than ten years...:sigh: ;).
