I'm looking at a situation where some folks want to run a Linux mail server and currently use MS Outlook. They don't want to give up Outlook because of the ability to synchronise calendars with their smart phones.

What are the options for mail server?

The two I've found are :
- Use POP3 to collect mail from server of choice.
- SuSE openexchange groupware says it can work with Outlook '98 or newer clients. Looks like a nice solution, but costs money of course (though less than Exchange).

Are there any other options? Any other Open Source products which talk to Outlook other than just via POP3?

RHEMS might do it.

http://rhems.sourceforge.net. uses IMAP/POP3 and SMTP. Plus a web based interface.
