OSS Sound disappears after some minutes
Hello,
- I am using debian sid -
for some months I have been using oss exclusively on my system, but a few days ago the sound simply disappeared and didn't want to come back.
I think I muted the sound somehow with mplayer,.. but didn't manage unmuting it again.
So I installed alsa completely which I didn't do on setup earlier because it worked with oss so far. What I needed to do to get alsa working(which ment for me getting into alsamixer) was adding some sound modules with modconf.
After that I changed the permissions of the /dev/snd/* files to 777 to have access as user (maybe not that clean but adding the user to group 'sound' and chown the files didn't work some times earlier so I kept doing it this way)
The only thing I had to do to have my sound playing again was moving the PCM-modulator.
But... after that sound disappears after a random seeming time.
In rotating order I have to do two things to get it back:
- move the PCM-modulator or
- mute the Master and unmute it again
...
I have no idea why.
I still have set my music player(mpd - music player demon) to use oss, because it didn't work with alsa at all.
mplayer is running with oss too, and also gives no output if the sound is gone.
What do I have to do? I ran "alsaconf" some times... alsactl store also changes nothing..
Thank you,
Jonas
