Oracle9i on CentOS

hello to all,

Had anyone install Oracle 9i on CentOS distro. I have the version 3.4.
I am trying it with the docs related to Oracle 9i installation on RedHat8.x.

As centos is said to be replica of redhat 3, Can oracle 9i favours it?

thanks in advance

did you find something??

i'm trying it to install on a slackware box

Oracle9i should work with no problems to my knowledge. Should be able to follow the same steps you would on a Redhat box with a few workarounds.

Regarding Slackware, I'd have no idea. Probably a good workaround but sure its possible.

i solved my problem.
Actually when i going to execute 'runInstaller' to install oracle 9i on centOS 3.4 , it gives me following error:

Error occurred during initialization of VM
Unable to load native library: /tmp/OraInstall2003-10-25_03-14-57PM/jre/lib/i386/libjava.so:
symbol __libc_wait, version GLIBC_2.0 not defined in file libc.so.6 with link time reference

To resolve this, I download the patch p3006854_9204_LINUX.zip from http://metalink.oracle.com/. See bug 3006854 for more information.

To apply the patch, run
su - root
# unzip p3006854_9204_LINUX.zip
# cd 3006854
# sh rhel3_pre_install.sh
Applying patch...
Patch successfully applied

After this my Oracle Universal Installer will run smoothly.
I am not sure whether this problem arises on slackware or not.

Good Luck....

thermite_1033 03-08-2005 11:14 AM

i don't get that error
when i run the universal installer, it gives me the window on my display but when i press next or exit or all the other buttons except 2(installed products) it does nothing what so ever. it doesnt run stuck but the buttons execute nothing.

i'm stomped with this problem

I found a thread tittled 'Installing Oracle 9i in Slackware 10.1 ' in which kponenation writes the same problem.

I replied him with the same solution as given you above. Which slackware you are using, because if he gets it, then this thing may be with your slackware too.

OR may be your slackware is too intelligent that it run Installer window and goes to sleep...Hey what a joke...Please don't mind..:p

thermite_1033 03-09-2005 02:12 AM

it look like it goes to sleep and you have an open window with no functionallity

it isn't the same error that he gets

i wanted to try your solution but i have no CSI for oracle to login at the download-site of these patches.
I just want to install it at home for study purpases.

dear, i can't give you the metalink password, as it is company confidential.
