Angry oracle installation hangs!

I am trying to install oracle 9i on Suse 9.1 pro and have been running into problems left and right. When i start the installation process, the installer hangs.

It says....

Installing Java Runtime Environment 1.1.8.1.0
Link pending.....
copying jre

but it does not move beyond 0%

I looked up the problem and the solution that seems to be workign for everyone is not working for me.

export LD_ASSUME_KERNEL=2.4.9 or export LD_ASSUME_KERNEL=2.4.1

When i tell it to ignore the installation of this component, it won't let me either....it's frozen.

HELP!! It took me so long to get to this point and I don't want to quit till I get it done all the way!
