oracle 8.1.6 installation on redhat 7.1
 
i recently purchased oracle 8i for linux
i did the following for installation

1.i made a user "oracle" and gave him all priviliges
2.i mount the cdrom and when i ran installer by giving a command


./runInstaller


the terminal shows thefollowing message

initializing java virtual machine from ../stage/components/oracle.swd.jre/1.1.8/1/datafiles/Expanded/linux/bin/jre. please wait..............



(...and nothing happenes)

please help me

It seems all to wierd. I tried the same problem comes.
I feel its with the JVM.

For the rest of you unfortunate souls...your search ends here. If you were experiencing the same problem like the rest of us, this site (given by 3MTA3): http://staff.in2.hr/denis/oracle/index.html
is your solution. Follow it and you won't go wrong. Basically, download the right version jdk, untar it in specified location, set environment variables accordingly, and you can't go wrong.

It worked for me.....

I install Oracle8 on Unixware7.0,
it's say can't find some ***.mk file
how can I do?

Yikaikai,

Are you getting this during the installation process (if so, is the installation process about 90% done)? I ask this because I got the same message at this point of the installation.

I first selected to "RETRY", but that didn't solve it. So I just selected "IGNORE" and it moved on with the installation process without any other problems.

Oracle is now running (for as far as I can see) without any problems.
