Optimizing linux for Squid-cache, network and USB DSL driver

Hi all,
My aim is to put on my office a proxy server which can be acceded in our network with the ethernet port et which can get websites through the USB port. I'll use alcatel speed touch DSL modem connected on USB port.
For this, I want to optimize my kernelin order to put into this my ethernet device driver, the USB modem driver.
For the proxy cache server, I want to use Squid-cache.
Can someone help for doing this: I need the option to use for compiling and optmizing the the kernel.
Regards
