Unhappy Opteron, SuSE 8.2 x86_64, NVidia driver problem

I have an Opteron 240 in an ASUS SK8N mb with the nVidia nforce chipset, and have an nVidia GeForce FX 5600 graphics card, all under SuSE 8.2 for x86_64 (with gcc 3.3 w/64-bit support).

So far, I can't get either set of nVidia drivers installed on my machine (chipset or g-card) - the CFLAGS have -march=i686, which I change to -m64 or -march=x86_64 to no avail, it just creates other errors.

Does anyone else in the world have any of this set up correctly? If anyone anywhere can help even a little on the x64_64 versus nvidia drivers issue, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks,
Prof. Payne
