Opera - YouTube - Adobe

I run Zenwalk, in the old days it used to be the Mini-Slack version of Slackware. In the past week, Opera visits to YouTube provide the dreaded "you need to upgrade your Adobe Flash Player to watch this video" screen. Clicking on a video starts buffering, then the upgrade comes again. Of course, I hate Adobe like anyone else who has to upgrade their Adobe player every month or whatever, but I'm good at cleaning out the old version and making sure the new version is in properly, etc. One way to check one's install is to look at http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/. Another is to make sure it plays at other Flash-viewer sites,eg www.southparkstudios.com, or others.

In this case, everything checks out. I have the latest version,11.2.202.258. Flash plays at every site but YouTube. But YouTube continues NOT to play and to prompt for upgrades. What is going on? Anyone else noting this in Opera?

while you sort this, just grab the url from opera, hop to a terminal and try

youtube-dl <your_url> | mplayer -

For what it's worth, I have Opera 12.12 installed on Debian with libflashplayer.so in /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins and have no problems playing YouTube videos. Same with Opera 12.12 on my Mint box, except that I copied libflashplayer.so into /usr/lib/opera/plugins.

YouTubes also play just fine in Opera on my Slackware boxes, except that I am still a version behind in my Opera on them, being a lazy kind of guy.

Do you have links to specific YouTubes that do not play, or is this a blanket YouTube problem?

I'm using Opera 12.11 with version 10.3 of Flash (version 11 won't run with my CPU) and I can use Youtube with no problems.

Thanks guys for all of the above, including questions I didn't answer...apologies.

I'm not sure what happened and had to write it off due to other obligations. Blew out Zenwalk and installed most recent version of Lubuntu, which would have had the latest libc, libflashplayer, and so on. Thereafter, no problems using bundled Chromium (--> Google --> YouTube) playing YouTube videos.

Still, it's not really solving the problem to give up and install another OS. I'd prefer not to post "solved", as others may have something similar and this might give them some corresponding validation or a further clue.

What does opera:plugins report with regards to Flash?

I remember that on one or more of my clients I switched to HTML5 for YouTube in Opera. For the life of it I can't remember how I did it, and on which computer, but I do remember it worked well.

The reason I did was something with a blue screen (no, not that blue screen. :) ), or somethng with incorrect colors.

This might help:
