Opera Problems on Dual Head Config
Dear Forum,
I'm having problems running Opera 7.50 since converting to Dual Head. I'm sure it's the dual monitor thing thats messing up Opera because its happened to me twice now on 2 different systems.
Heres my setup:
Redhat 9 and Fedora Core 2 (release kernel)
opera-7.50-20040511.5
RPM Summary:
Summary : Opera for Linux, dynamically linked to Qt 3.1.1
On one system Opera will run for so long then just crash for no known reason. On my other system Opera simply won't start - I just get some part of the initial popup box.
Any ideas how I can debug or fix this problem?
Thanks,
Chris

yes that's very annoying, in fact this bug exists since Opera 7.0
Reported it several times to Opera, no response

Hi,
The only solution I've found is to switch to "Clone" mode which doesn't allow windows to be dragged from one monitor to the other, but Opera is stable:
Section "ServerFlags"
#Option "Xinerama" "true"
Option "Clone" "true"
EndSection
Regards,
Chris

But using "clone" defeats the purpose for using "dual-head". In another thread it was suggested to use path names for the fonts vs the font server. This seems to work under FC2 but, I had to keep the "font server" line in as well for Mozilla to work. It's not the ideal solution.

In truth, I'm quite enjoying clone mode. Even if Opera was fixed, I might be hard pushed to go back to Xinerama.
Obvioulsy you can't move windows from one screen to the other, but you do still get separate work areas. Interestingly, icons can be moved between monitors.
Regards,
Chris
