Opera often hanging until "stop" pressed

Opera 10.10 in Debian is working.
It's quick and efficient... except...
...except that, relatively frequently, I suddenly find that I'm waiting forever before loading a particular page. And then I discovered that, whenever this happens, I have only to hit "stop" (or "Esc"), upon which it promptly abandons some unknown task and loads the page immediately.

Does anybody have any idea (i) what it's doing and why, and/or (ii) how to eliminate this snag?

How much of the page is loaded, if any, when it hangs?

Does the same happen on a blank profile?

I've heard of Opera never finishing loading a page (but most of it is loaded), if that's the case then wait til 10.52 is out.

What do you mean by a 'blank profile'?

It often happens when moving about this very site - you hit the link, nothing happens, but it's doing something. Eventually I hit the "x" (stop) button, which blinks to the 'refresh' symbol and back to the 'x' as it quickly loads the page.

I mean close Opera, move your ~/.opera out of the way, then open it. Or if it has a command-line switch to specify a profile location, start it with /tmp as your profile (I don't have it in front of me to check).

Ive noticed increasing problems with Opera lately myself. Hanging is an issue.. on this page actually. Its endlessly loading. Not being able to click on links. I usually have to hit page reload to get that solved. I couldnt even post here a minute ago until I reloaded the page. Its like its stuck in load mode.
