opera not working; reinstall of opera no help

For some reason, my web browser, Opera, has stopped working. When I execute it from the shell, I get a segmentation fault.

The error first started happening after switching to ratpoison for my window manager, but it executed successfully several times before it stopped working. Then I decided to try executing it with XFce instead of ratpoison, and that didn't help, then I tried reinstalling Opera, and that didn't help.

Thanks in advance for advice on how to get Opera to work again.

Edit: I'm using slackware 9.1 + kernel 2.6.1, if any of that matters.

it may be that the .opera folder in your user area is corrupted

copy it elsewhere, then start opera up again and see if it helps
