OpenVPN sometimes does not forward all traffic to server

Hi,

I have successfully installed OpenVPN on both my Windows Vista and a VMWare of Windows XP and Ubuntu. I have setup my VPN client to redirect gateway and forward all traffic thru the tunnel. Now, I was just wondering why it is not working all the time. When I do a traceroute to a specific site, sometimes the 1st hop is the VPN gateway and sometimes its my local router's IP address. How can I set it in such a way that it will redirect all traffic thru the tunnel and not use the DNS of my local server? Thanks.

Looks like a routing problem. OpenVPN doesn't flush the network metrics thus my local gateway has the lowest metric (higher priority) than the VPN tunnel. Does anyone tried setting up OpenVPN in client in Vista? Is OpenVPN capable of overriding the current network metrics and assign the tunnel interface a higher priority so that it routes everything thru the tunnel? When I have tried to change the network metrics, the traffic miraculously being routed thru the tunnel which is good. But I am not sure if this can be done automatically by OpenVPN. Any ideas? Thanks.
