openvpn dns lookup problem

I'm on a VPN that i set up on a debian box. Everything is OK; when I check the website "", it shows the ip of my debian server and not my home linux system.

The thing is, I'm behind a firewall that blocks some sites (eg. facebook) and sends them to the wrong IP address. If all my traffic is going through the VPN, why are they still blocked? (I'm guess DNS lookup, but I can't get to facebook by the IP address either.)

Check that automatic proxy detection is not in use.
