openSUSE online update configuration not contacting server...

Hello, I was trying to initialize the automatic update for my computer by configuring it with YaST2, but when my computer tries to contact the server, within 2 hours it has made no progress.

I looked with wireshark, and my computer does not seem to be sending packets.

ALL help will be appreciated.

Did you check the software repositories ?
IF the the repositories you need are all there.

chickenlinux 08-05-2008 09:13 AM

which repo do I need, specifically?
I'm not sure...

That depends on you,re graphic cards and the software you install for instance with GUI do you install
but if have no idea post again and I have give you mine as a example

I'm not sure about the gfx card, but it's rather lousy but supported by SAX2, and yes, I install GUIs.

Try to do first the yast>software> online update configuration , it should configure all repositories you need

chickenlinux 08-08-2008 06:15 PM

That's exactly what I'm having trouble with. I've tried that, and that was what the problem was in the first place. It made no progress when it said "contacting server... this may take a while." Wireshark indicated that no packets were being sent.

Try community repositories I am not in suse 10 now but speaking out of my mind if you click on it make contact with the server and afterwards on the left set you can choose the repros you need in
In yast2 of course

chickenlinux 08-09-2008 09:41 AM

what are "community repositories"

ronlau9 08-09-2008 12:52 PM

When you start yast>software you will find a few options
One of this options give you the change to add or delete the repositories
I am in suse 11 now and here we call software repositories you find such a option in suse 10 too I am sure about it as
suse 10.3 for a long time
But it might be possible that this option came for the first time with suse 10.3

I know how to change the repos already, but thanks anyway. specifically, which repo do I need?
