openSUSE 11.4 - trouble getting into gedit, kwrite, emacs from terminal as su

Has anyone had a problem being su in a terminal and not being able to get gedit or kwrite or emacs to load? None of these will get passed an opening error which comes up.

Ok. Just tried your suggestions. Remember I'm in Gnome.....

The system under terminal does not recognize the command 'gksu' and wants me to use 'cnf' to search for it upon which it does not show up.

On the other hand, if I enter 'kdesu' kwrite or gedit, no questions about password first come up, and I go write into superuser kdesu or gedit.

So, that means that any user could enter superuser mode. Not good.

If I go back to 'su' and then password and then say, gedit, I get the following:

GLib-GIO:ERROR:gdbusconnection_c:2279:initable_init:assertionfailedconnection->initialization_error == NULL

But, now, of course I can get into my target file with 'kdesu.....

Any ideas? and Thank you.
