openoffice writer file won't open

Using Debian 2.6.10 kernel, got a couple openoffice writer file (swx) created in OO 1.1.2 that won't open at all. They start to open and the progress bar gets about half way, and openoffice just freezes. Currently using kde 3.3.1 with OO 1.1.3, tried opening with OO 1.1.2 and no luck either. File maybe corrupted? Any ideas please help on how to fix it...

Try to open file using another app like kword..
Then you can find out whether file is corrupted or not..

Yeah!
I'm using KWord 1.3.5 on KDE 3.3.2
I have no problem what so ever with .sxw on KWord;-)
And I didn't hand any prob's in the older versions also..
KWord supports .sxw format you can open those files from KWord.
You can't open files directly by selecting the file if you doesn't have change the File Associations.

kword

Ok, tried Kword, which opened the file after about 30 sec, but all the text and graphics were missing except for the title on the first line, everything else was just lines and boxes, I selected these and they had font properties, like they were formated. Any other ideas... does this mean the file is corrupt, if so, can it be rescued?

You said every thing else were lines & boxes...
That is strange, seems to me that your KWord ver does not support OpenOffice.
Because that is what "swx" file looks like when open by a common editer.
What is your KWord Version?

Using Kword version 1.3.4, just installed it on Saturday.

Update! After posting this, I tried to open the file again in OpenOffice Writer. It finally worked, though took about 2 minutes to open, and is very slow to move from one page to another, probably due to the inserted graphics, some of which are linked to web sites. This document was created by someone else cut and pasted from various websites. Obviously I need to have a training session with this person as to how to properly clip from websites. I'm guessing the file wouldn't open before due to not being online before. Gotta figure out a simple way to paste graphics without linking them... thanks for the ideas.
