OpenOffice Writer: Default margins too wide

The default margins in Writer are much wider than in Microsoft Word. Unfortunately, as Word is probably the de facto standard, I'd like to comply with this standard.

How can I use Word's Normal.dot as the default template? If this is not possible, how can I adjust default formatting in Writer (things such as margin) to be more like Normal.dot?

Easy. You can update your default template with custom margins: open a new document, go to Format > Page > Page, adjust margins. Then File > Templates > Save, and save it. Then File > Templates > Organise, choose Templates drop down box, click on My Templates, right-click new template > Set as Default.

Thanks. Worked easily.

Support for non technical users

There is a new support site for OpenOffice.org, targeting non-technical users. It's called Plan-B for OpenOffice.org.

You find there demonstrated "How to change the default template for new text documents."

Enjoy
