OpenOffice.org with GCJ

Do any of you have experience with using GCJ with OpenOffice.org?
As I understand it, that is what Red Hat does, also with Fedora. Is it something one can install/set up/compile without too many difficulties?
I have tried searching for some material on this, but I can't seem to find a clear indication. Does anyone here have useful experiences with this?
Fortunately, it is possible to use OOo without Java, but if one can have everything with the open implementation, there is no reason not to, right?

In my experience OOo comes bundled with GCJ. I, personally, prefer to install Sun Java instead, but since OOo plans it that way, GCJ works fine.

Running Base, the program asks for a JRE, which is not supplied. Can GCJ take it's place?
