Unhappy OpenOffice.org freezes

I'm having a terrible problem with OpenOffice.org on my RH9 system. It was working fine but now when I try to start the program, whether by starting it manually or by opening a document, it freezes. Not just OpenOffice though- everything. I can't do any kind of ctrl-alt-backspace, or any kind of keyboard combination that will get me out of it; the entire system is unresponsive.

I read about somebody having a similar problem with slackware and OpenOffice and he said that if he disabled his nvidia drivers it worked. However, I don't want to disable my nvidia drivers, nor do I want to reboot into Windows to do my word processing.

Any ideas for me?

Thanks
-dave

Since it worked at one time it may be that the program crashed and left something in a local file that's causing the problem. You could try renaming your .soffice directory to .soffice-bak.

I had added the following lines to my XF86Config:

Option "RenderAccel" "On"
Option "IgnoreDisplayDevices" "DFP, TV"
Option "ConnectedMonitor" "CRT"

In the nvidia section on the advice of another post I read on this forum. I commented out the lines and now Open Office works fine... I am going to go through and try to re-integrate each line and see if there is one that is in particular causing the problem.
