openoffice.org crashing
when i start openoffice.org 1.0.3 and the "address data source autopilot" window comes up, one of two things happens:
1) if i press next, the application freezes with no errors; i have to kill the process.
2) if i press cancel, i get an error popup that says, "an unrecoverable error has occurred, all modified files have been saved and can probably be recovered at program restart."
with either of these, i get no specific error messages in window or in the terminal. i am so incredibly lost; i have no idea what would cause OO to crash randomly at start like this. i couldn't find any mention of it at openoffice.org either.
redhat 9
gnome 2.2
thanks,
andrew

That's definately a strange one. You started OO from a terminal and there's no clue in the term as to what happened?

Is this the OO that came with RH9 or did you download it?

i downloaded it from openoffice.org.
edit: new developments. in my term that i started it from, i got this error:
Xlib: unexpected async reply (sequence 0x26cb)!
i haven't been able to reproduce that yet. seems to have happened when i was able to advance on the address book setup window.

I just got this same problem with Slack 9. I tried versions 1.0.2 and 1.0.3.1 from their site, with the exact same result, and the same Xlib error.

well, you are in luck; i fixed the problem a while ago. i mean, this worked for me, but it may not for you. anyway, openoffice.org 1.1 beta 2 works without a hitch.

So, all you did was install a different version? If so, that's not exactly a fix. And I heard that the 1.1 beta doesn't have a lot of features.

okay okay, maybe it's not a fix, but do you have any better ideas? the oo forum isn't much help on the topic either. believe me, i've tried. give 1.1b2 a go and tell me if it works.
