Post OpenOffice.org bibliography encoding

Like most of the open source tribe, I am using OpenOffice.org for word processing. A brilliant and very mature tool.
At the moment, I am working on a project involving Russian texts.
In-document I encounter no problems with the encoding - I can combine Russian and Danish. I use the bibliography database - which is a very promising tool and which I hope will be developed further, since the current interface is a mixed blessing. However, when I try to enter Russian text using Cyrillics, I am told the text 'presents an invalid value'.
I am not quite sure what to do about this. I haven't been able to find any encoding settings in OOo. Any pointers?
