OpenOffice/LibreOffice crashes when typing after idle periods.

If I leave OpenOffice with a document open for a while (hour or two, maybe longer), then type in that document, OpenOffice immediately crashes. It is difficult to know when the problem first started, since before the last month or so I wasn't using OO much.

I'm running Kubuntu 10.04 32 bit, uname -a gives
Code:

Linux treno 2.6.32-27-generic #49-Ubuntu SMP Wed Dec 1 23:52:12 UTC 2010 i686 GNU/Linux
In syslog, I get the following
Code:

Jan 26 23:50:03 treno kernel: [27834.939147] __ratelimit: 24 callbacks suppressed
Jan 26 23:50:03 treno kernel: [27834.939158] soffice.bin[3259]: segfault at 100000 ip 00100000 sp bfe8eecc error 4 in libstlport_gcc.so.4.6[110000+c3000]

The following have NOT fixed it:

* Purging OpenOffice and using LibreOffice from their website
* Purging LibreOffice and using LibreOffice from the libreoffice PPA.
* Not using desktop integration packages
* Adding the backports
* Replacing the standard libstlport package with the one from Karmic.

The following haven't yet been fully tested; I hope to try them in the next few days:

* Clearing out my openoffice user settings
* Using an older kernel
* Using the 2.6.32-28 kernel (that's just appeared as an upgrade).
* Not using the proprietary nvidia graphics driver.

Googling around did turn up an Ubuntu bug report (which I can't seem to find again now), but no fix.

I think you may want to report this as a bug to the *office devs, or see if there is a bug like it.

I had actually tried deleting my openoffice user settings before, just forgot.

I decided to do my own libreoffice build from source, making sure libstlport wasn't on my system before doing so. It took a few tries to get right, but following these instructions http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/D...t/Native_Build I now have my own build, which so far hasn't crashed. Hopefully it will stay that way; if so, that would indicate the bug may be in ubuntu's libstlport.

Nope, my own build exhibits the exact same behaviour. I'm getting segfaults in different modules though - for two successive crashes, dmesg gives
Code:

[ 3052.282545] __ratelimit: 24 callbacks suppressed
[ 3052.282551] soffice.bin[3081]: segfault at 100000 ip 00100000 sp bfb204bc error 4 in libsofficeapp.so[110000+50000]
[11358.486850] soffice.bin[3128]: segfault at 100000 ip 00100000 sp bfd3c8ec error 4 in libuno_sal.so.3[110000+1a0000]

I have this same problem. I am running LibreOffice on a fresh install (OpenOffice has never run on this computer). I have deleted my settings three times so far. Each time LO works for awhile (from several hours to several weeks before I get repeated crashes). I have no idea of what causes it, but it is frustrating. I can use OO on my old computer without these problems.

+1, with the following dmesg output:

[24354.244064] soffice.bin[4180] general protection ip:7fa9d70d9f0e sp:7fff592c1a80 error:0 in libuno_cppuhelpergcc3.so.3[7fa9d70ba000+9e000]

Mint 10.10 x86_64, Kernel 2.6.35-28-generic
I used to have OOO on here, replaced with LibreOffice hoping to fix it, same problem however.

Report it, because it's probably a bug in both.
